What is The True Meaning For Happiness?

dictionaryWhile looking up the meaning of happiness, my brother happened to have a dictionary dated 1912, to this date means it is over 100 years old. It is called the ‘New Websterian 1912 Dictionary’. Based upon the unabridged dictionary of Noah Webster, LL.D.

The meaning of happiness in this dictionary is: The state of being happy; good fortune; felicitousness. There is also a meaning of, happify, didn’t really know it was a word, but it says: to make cheerful and happy.

What Good Is It To Have Everything If You’re Not Happy?

I think people have lost perspective of what true happiness is. People keep thinking, If I would just loose some weight I would be happy, If I could make more money I would be happy, If I was rich I would be happy, If I had better health, I would be happy. If I wouldn’t have gotten cancer, I would be happy! I could go on and on with different reasons of what people think they need or don’t need, in order to be happy.

Right now we live in an age of convenience. We have more conveniences than our ancestors could ever even dream of having. We have trains, planes, and fast automobiles. We have cell phones, and computers, at the touch of a button we can communicate with any one in the world. Yet with all these conveniences more people are unhappy and miserable today than a hundred years ago.

People are getting so caught up with chasing after the next big buck, with being rich that they forget the true meaning of a happy life.

Here’s a few of my favorite happy quotes:

Jumping for Joy is good exercise! ‘Unknown’

If you want to be happy, be. ‘Leo Tolstoy’

The best way to cheer yourself up, is to try to cheer somebody else up. ‘Mark Twain’

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. ‘Abraham Lincoln’

We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have. ‘Frederick Keonig’

A truly happy person is one that can enjoy the scenery while on a detour. ‘Unknown’

Cheerfulness is what greases the axles of the world. Don’t go through life creaking. ‘H.W. Byles’

Happiness always looks small while you hold it in your hands, but let it go, and you learn at once how precious it is. ‘Maxim Gorky’

For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness! ‘Unknown’

All seasons are beautiful for the person who carries happiness within. ‘Horace Friess’

Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within. It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy; it is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves. ‘Helen Keller’smiley

Everyone has a different meaning of happiness in their life. I believe what Helen Keller quotes, Happy is that which we think and feel and do! So no matter what life throws at you, think good thoughts, so you feel good and in turn will do good things!

Happiness Is Not Something Magical!

smileyOne thing the philosopher’s have found is that, happiness is not something magical, even the smallest of things CAN make some people happy.

If you are one of those people who struggle to not only be happy, but to stay happy, here is a list of things that may help you.

One: Dance like no one is watching

Put on some of your favorite music and dance, dance, dance. The sheer fun of going against your normal activities and feeling the joy of your favorite music will turn your frown upside down. Especially if going through having cancer.

Now if some one is watching you, they may start laughing, but that’s ok, because now you’ve made someone else happy too.

Two: Count your blessings

When you start to think about all the things that are going wrong in your life, like having cancer, start counting your blessings. Think of all the things that you should be grateful for. When you make a list of things that you’re grateful for you tend to forget about all the bad stuff in your life and what got you down in the first place.

Three: Hula Hoop!

I bought a hula hoop because I heard it was great for exercising. Living full time in an RV is kind of hard to hit the gym everyday or carry weights around with you, so I bought a hula hoop. Not only did I loose weight, but hula hooping to music made me feel like a kid again. Of course, at first it wasn’t easy, I really had to laugh at myself, because I got a lot of bruises on my shins, but what fun! Try it some time, you really will feel like a kid again.

Four: Just Choose It!

Being happy is a mindset. So choose to be happy! We can all choose our own thought patterns. We can choose to put a smile on our face, to be positive rather than negative, to be upbeat rather than complaining.
If you have to do something that makes you unhappy, which at sometime or another we all do, just know that it will be done soon and we can become happy again. It’s much easier to accomplish something when you are happy and content, than it is when you are miserable. And the task that you don’t want to do, that makes you unhappy, will be done much faster.

Quote: Abraham Lincoln

“Most Folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be!”

happiness quote

Cancer Got You Down? Be Happy Now!

smiling sunCancer sure has a way to get you down. Make you feel like crap and be depressed. Don’t let it win! Be happy now!

Some people are waiting for that special moment to be happy. Waiting for the Cancer to be gone! Waiting for the perfect mate, waiting for the right job, waiting for the house to be paid off, waiting for the kids to finish college. If you keep waiting for the perfect moment to be happy, you will never be happy.

You have to be happy right now, in the present, then you will be happy in the future. Happiness is a mental habit, a mental attitude, and if it’s not learned and practiced in the present it will never be experienced.

Happiness cannot be waited upon until all problems are solved. Every time a problem is solved another one comes along. Life is a series of problems. If you’re to be happy at all, you must be happy in the here and now.

Abraham Lincoln quoted: “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

We have let the little things make us unhappy for so long, it has become a habit to have frustrations, dissatisfaction’s and irritability. Things that make us that way are a blow to our self esteem, so we react as being unhappy.

You need to stop letting circumstances and other people dictate how you feel. Change your attitude, change your out look and change your feelings. Form the habit of reacting positively toward problems. Practice keeping a positive attitude. postiiveContinue to do this and you will be happy in the present and in the future. This worked wonders for me when I was battling breast cancer. I surrounded myself with happy people and, I AM a cancer survivor!!
